Progress = Belief

I believe that progress = belief.

I also believe that what you believe, you become.

The belief that can be harnessed from completing a 10k run can be life-changing.

I know because I’ve been there.

Allow me to introduce myself.

My name’s Mike Maddox, and I’ve made it my mission to help legions of middle-aged men live their best lives through Health, Fitness, and Personal Development.

Mike Maddox Half Marathon Barcelona 2020

This is me wearing a very striking yellow bin bag after completing my first half marathon in February 2020. I still have it.

A few years ago, there was no way on earth that I could have imagined myself running a half marathon without stopping (that’s 21k / 13 miles).

But I did it in 2 hours.

(I don’t like to talk about the additional 64 seconds).

I also couldn’t have imagined that I’d be sitting here right now typing out this page – and having the balls to create this Challenge.

Yet my progress, (however slow), has given me that belief.

A journey of self-belief

My journey of self-belief started back in 2015 at 40 years old with crippling back pain and the self-confidence of a wounded gnat.

Two long years later, I took part in my first 10k run, which turned out to be the catalyst towards changing my life.

Here’s my Facebook post from that fateful day…

Right now I’m super excited about the future and the prospect of a new business taking off and looking forward to taking on my next challenges – a full marathon and a triathlon.

(Not on the same day. I’m not insane).

My new belief spurs me on every day to live my very best life.

I’m healthier, more focussed, and more determined than ever, and I truly believe that limits are there to be challenged.

I owe much of it to running.

While I’m not a coach, a personal trainer, or a qualified nutritionist, what I bring to this Challenge is the inspiration, the planning, guidance, and the tools that I’ve acquired over these last few years.

Don’t let that deter you.

All of the technical detail provided throughout the Challenge has been provided by experts and professionals.

Combined, this Challenge has the potential to be a game-changer.

The Community

Throughout the Challenge, the online community is where the action is going to be.

Ask questions, share your progress, discuss how you’re feeling, or just share photos of how windy it was on your last run! These are my favourite!

The community is the place to make new friends, share your fears, your failures, and your triumphs. The place where we can connect with each other and grow together.

Think of it as a gold mine of inspiration, motivation, and positive banter.

What you will need

To take part, you shouldn’t have any serious pre-existing medical conditions and should be able to walk comfortably for one hour.

If you’re unsure, speak with your doctor first and foremost.

More than anything, you need to turn up with a positive attitude, an open mind, and the desire to make a positive change.

You don’t need a gym subscription or any special gear, but you will need some decent running shoes.
